Dumpster and Trash Receptacle Standards Reminder
The Town of Danville is committed to maintaining a clean and attractive community. As part of that effort, all property and business owners are reminded of the Town’s dumpster and trash receptacle standards as outlined in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), Section 4.11.
Key points include:
-
Purpose: Trash stored outside must be secured and screened to protect public health and reduce visual clutter.
-
Applicability: These standards apply to all outdoor, non-pedestrian trash receptacles, dumpsters, and compactors.
-
Location: Dumpsters must:
-
Follow all development standards.
-
Be placed on private property (not in the public right-of-way);
-
Be located in the side or rear yard, behind the front of the building.
-
Screening: Dumpsters must be fully enclosed using a masonry wall and/or opaque fencing to block visibility from public rights-of-way or nearby properties. Gates must remain closed unless in use, and evergreen plantings are encouraged to provide additional screening.
-
Temporary Dumpsters: Those related to construction or demolition may only remain on-site for one week before and one week after the project and must meet all development and setback requirements.
