Internship Program
Parks and Recreation Intern Description:
Danville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an intern that is a college student or recent graduate looking for an opportunity to pursue a career in the recreation field. The primary focus of this internship will be to assist the Danville Parks and Recreation Department in a variety of areas such as operations, programming, maintenance, and aquatics. This intern will gain experience in all aspects of running and managing a revenue-generating operation within a park and recreational setting. The intern will supervise and assist part-time staff, participate in the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and analysis of the operations budget, participate in market research and budget projections, assist with revenue data collection, and help facilitate park special events and programs. The intern will become familiar with our facilities including an athletic center, aquatic center, 6 sports fields, multiple shelters, tennis/pickleball courts, an amphitheater, and several playgrounds. The internship will provide vast opportunities to expand supervisory and collaborating skills through the Danville Parks and Recreation Department staff of seven full-time employees and up to 40 seasonal employees. The intern will be able to utilize classroom knowledge and gain-hands on exposure to the many facets involved with management and programming involved in the field of sports and recreation field.
Community Engagement/ Marketing Intern Description:
Work with the Community Engagement Coordinator to execute communications strategies for the Town of Danville and the Danville Parks Department, including:
Drafting social media content for the Town of Danville's social media accounts
Draft communications and marketing materials
Creating content assets, including graphics, photography, and video
Interview local elected officials
Actively contributing ideas to reach new audiences and strengthen community engagement
Collaborate with local businesses and non-profit organizations on community engagement initiatives
Help to coordinate and execute community engagement initiatives and education with Danville Department Leaders.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned or required
Compensation:
$320 per week for a minimum of 12 weeks and a maximum of 15 weeks.
Qualifications:
Candidates will currently be attending college or a recent graduate with a major in Marketing, Recreation, Exercise Science, Sports Management, or a related field. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work. The Danville Parks and Recreation Department is willing to accommodate any school internship requirements, if applicable. Candidates also must pass a background check before the start date.
