Town of Danville, Indiana
The Town of Danville is a great place to live, work and do business.
Plan Commission
The Town of Danville has a zoning map that designates zoning districts for properties located within the corporate boundaries. The zoning ordinance regulates what types of uses are permitted within each zoning district. There is also an overlay district that covers properties along Main Street and US 36 and applies a set of high-quality development standards to ensure that renovated or developed property will be compatible with Danville’s traditional character and to improve or enhance the livability of local neighborhoods.
It is the responsibility of a landowner to determine the zoning of their property in order to determine the uses that will be allowed.
Under Indiana law, plan commissions are responsible for the following:
- Preparing a comprehensive plan;
- Preparing a zoning ordinance and a subdivision control ordinance;
- Making recommendations to the legislative body on proposals to amend the text of the zoning ordinance or subdivision control ordinance;
- Making recommendations to the legislative body on proposals to amend the zoning map (rezoning);
- Approving or denying proposals to subdivide land, based upon compliance with the subdivision control ordinance;
- Approving development plans; and
- Assigning street addresses.
